Tucked away in Chicago’s South Loop, Cafe Press Chicago at 800 S Clark St isn’t just another local coffee spot—it’s a full-on brunch destination with a neighborhood vibe that makes you feel like you’ve been coming here for years. You’ll see regulars chatting up the baristas by name, laptops flipped open in the cozy booths, and an endless stream of orders for their famous breakfast sandwiches. It’s not loud or rushed. Just the soft hum of music, the hiss of the espresso machine, and the occasional clink of silverware on ceramic plates.
What sets this place apart isn’t just the coffee—though the lavender latte with oat milk is a crowd favorite—it’s the full kitchen that pumps out dishes you’d expect from a high-end brunch bistro. The menu reads like a greatest hits album of comfort food: avocado toast with a soft-poached egg, lemon ricotta pancakes, spicy breakfast burritos, and hearty grain bowls with roasted sweet potatoes and kale. There’s attention to detail in every plate. Even a simple BLT here gets an upgrade with thick-cut bacon and perfectly toasted sourdough.
It’s also worth noting how well Cafe Press balances its locations with community energy. Even on a busy Sunday, the team manages to keep things running smoothly. Service is warm and attentive, but never overbearing. If you’re visiting from out of town and staying nearby, this is the kind of spot you stumble into on Day 1—and end up coming back every morning. For locals, it’s become a go-to for casual meetings, remote work, or solo journaling sessions over cold brew and banana bread.
In terms of reviews, consistency is the keyword. Yelp and Google are packed with five-star notes about the fast service, the savory breakfast quesadilla, and how easy it is to relax here, whether you’re dining in or grabbing a cortado to go. One customer even wrote that it’s “where her Sunday starts and Monday stress disappears”—and honestly, that tracks.
For those who appreciate aesthetics as much as flavor, the space is clean, warm-toned, and sun-drenched. A soft modern-industrial interior, light wood, neutral walls, and a small outdoor seating area for warmer days. It’s Instagram-friendly, yes, but not in an over-curated way. There’s a lived-in charm that’s authentic. You get the feeling that even if no one was watching, the food and experience would be just as good.
Whether you’re hunting for the best brunch in the South Loop or just need a reliable weekday coffee fix, this café delivers more than you expect. You’re not just ordering breakfast—you’re stepping into a place where the staff remembers your name, the eggs are always soft-set, and the vibe feels like a reset button.
“ We really enjoyed this place after going on a Saturday evening. It was slow but we saw great and friendly service, delicious coffee, and we loved the art & vibe. You should give this place a try! ”
Jonathan C.“ This is a good spot with solid prices. Service is slow because they only tend to have one barista working at a time. Highly recommend the breakfast sandwich, chai latte, and mocha. It is kind of small and cramped inside but I'm always able to find a seat. Barista today was very cheerful despite being slammed. ”
Ryan M.“ Very good cafe. Lattes are great and breakfast food tastes pretty good. Customer service is great and prices are reasonable. I come here any time I visit Chicago. ”
Francesca S.“ Cafe Press is such a cute neighborhood coffee shop! When you walk in, it feels cozy and welcoming. There are lots of people working at the tables, but there's plenty of seating, lots of natural light, and free wifi, making it a great place to get some work done. I ordered an iced latte and was so excited to see they had lavender syurp - my favorite! They were out of skim milk, so they offered a dairy alternative free of charge. This was super appreciated as a lot of my local coffee shops are out of skim and then charge $0.75-0.90 to substitute almond milk. They have a ton of different syurps to choose from, including some I don't see often. So fun! I also got a bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich on a croissant to go. It was packaged nicely and warmed up for me, so it was still warm when I got home. The croissant was perfectly flaky and the bacon was thick cut and crisp. Perfection! Service here was great too. Everyone was really nice and they promptly fixed my friend's order when it was mistakenly made hot rather than iced without a complaint. I will definitely be back here again! ”
Kate W.“ Got takeout for breakfast while we were staying close by. The egg sandwiches are fine but the eggs were rubbery? Still does the job but I probably wouldn't get a breakfast sammie again. Coffee was great and service was fast. ”
Natalie K.“ Wanted to go for a walk and grab some coffee, so we went to cafe press. The space is very cute and clean, lots of unique decor. There are plenty of seats if you want to study or hang out with a friend. I decided to try the oats & honey latte, iced. It was good flavor, but very heavy on the honey. The homemade peach scone was good & the iced americano was tasty! We loved the roast flavor of the coffee. They appeared to be a bit understaffed, but there in a few extra delicious macarons as an apology for us having to wait, which I appreciated! The passion fruit flavored ones are worth a try. Would go back to try a sandwich for sure! ”
Jessica G.“ Cafe Press is a pretty good cafe for coffee and bagels. It has a pretty simple menu of typical breakfast offerings. Lunch stuff too. Fun relaxing environment. The prices are better than many places around here. I have come here mainly at breakfast. It's just a small cafe. There's a few seats with outlets on the walls. Lots of coffee. They have the classics and some newer ones. I like getting a Letterpress. It's about $3 for a medium. This is made with Colombian, Rwandan, and Sumatran. Non dairy milk is available. Oat milk and some other less common ones. Bagels are the best thing at breakfast. There's also things like breakfast paninis. I usually get a bagel. It's $3.95 with a Beyond sausage patty. This is good topped with cheese for those not a vegan. An alternative that works is marmalade. There's a good combination of spicy and sweet. Also they have a lunch menu. It has things like paninis. There's salads too. ”
